Laetare Sunday
On this 4th Sunday of Lent, as we reflect on Jesus the Good Shepherd, we must ask ourselves how have we allowed the Lord to direct our lives so that all we do will give God the glory.
Sometimes people give up things for Lent but others add on to their lives good and useful extras. This is how I was brought up and even as an adult still consider such things. But all this can make Lent seem like a hard time – a time of difficulty and a lack of happiness.
This Sunday of Lent which is halfway through Lent we might want to make a change, lift the spirit a bit and realise all the benefits and graces that we have and how thankful and even rejoicing we should be.
Isaiah 66:10f
Rejoice Jerusalem and all who love her
Be joyful all who were in mourning
Exult and be satisfied at her consoling breasts.
You can read the context of this quote:-
The O.T. book of Isaiah Chapter 60
Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. Etc.
We all should feel hopeless at times because our ideals should be high and we may need help from friends. But God is our light and always with us (except in sin). And we all have a friend in Jesus the light that shines in the dark. He contacts us often through the liturgy or through our friends. Let us thank God for this.
