Jeff’s Jottings: Pentcost

28 May

Jesus gave us an example of the ideal human being, and He taught about it and lived it with all its ups and downs. His life showed the power of loving others and His death particularly the downside of our world and illustrated the climax of being misunderstood by others.

Being followers of Christ and knowing of His life’s example can beckon us to be Christians (ideal humans) but we need more than just knowledge of the ideal. We need dynamism, enthusiasm, perseverance and serious vitality. That’s where the Spirit of God comes in – the feast of Pentecost celebrates this for us to this day; the account of the coming of the promised Spirit in Acts is so keen to express this that it lists, the outlandish miracle of the grasp of the message by the citizens of the whole known world celebrating with shouts of joy. To this day although the words and teaching of Christians can appear meaningless to those around them, there are among all humans some who strive to be the best humans that they can possibly be.
